To develop aesthetic sense by appreciating the poems and develop the  skill to construct discourses like poems through varied instructional strategies and creative processes including self-
assessment on reading and constructing  poems.

Initial Interation
 Teachers enters into a pleasant conversation with the students and ask them.
1. How many seasons there we have in our country in every year ?
2. Which season of the year do you like most ?

Entry Activity
Teacher shows relevant pictures of nature which describes its beauty.
Pictures of waterfalls, streams, birds, flowers etc

Each seasons have their own features
Yes/No. Let’s find out the most  striking features of the seasons and how would nature be during the season

What time of the day is most attractive and lively, Why?

Do you all wake up early in the morning and enjoy the beauty of the nature around you ?
Are you fond of listening small poems?
Here we are  going to read a poem about the beauty of the nature;
Where the poet describes the beauty of the nature in its utmost bliss.

Teacher writes the title of the poem on the black board
“Lines Written in March”- William Wordsworth.

Teacher shows a chart containing biographical notes and picture of William Wordsworth


Micro processing of the input
Reading the poem aloud by the teacher
     Teacher reads the poem aloud ones or twice with proper intonation, stress, rhythm and emotions

Individual reading by the pupil and keeping the track of the reading.
Students are asked to read the poem individually and silently

Students are asked to mark with the signsP ? and ! for what they have understood, for what they have not understood, and for what they found interesting.

Sharing in groups
The learners are asked to share their ideas and feelings and their understanding about the poem.

Glossary Reference
The students are asked to refer the glossary to find the difficult words.

Teacher helps in clarifying the word meaning with the help of certain situations in life and experiences.

Mega phoning their doubts to other groups
Students are asked to megaphone their doubts to the other groups so that they can arrive at the understanding of problem areas of the poem.

Teacher explains the problem areas which both groups could effectively track
Teacher points out the lines
“The oldest and youngest
 Are at work with the strongest”
is a poetic expression that describes the unity among the people. The oldest, youngest and the strongest stands for the entire population of an area and they all are celebrating the arrival of spring.
Teacher asks to read the poem aloud one or two   students are asked to read the poem aloud by giving attention to stress, intonation and proper pause

Scaffolding Questions
Teacher asks the scaffolding questions to the whole class
1. Are all the things in nature happy in march?
Justify your answer?



2. The plough boy is whooping-anon- anon. Why does the poet repeat the word ‘anon’?

3. Read the poem once again
 Do you  come across word pictures in the poem?



4. Look at the following lines and answer the questions given below
 “Like an army defeated
  The snow hath retreated
  And now doth fare ill
  On the top of the bare hill”

5. “The oldest and youngest
      Are at work with the strongest”
What do you understand from these lines?

Presentation of the answers by the pupil
    Two or three learners are allowed to present their answers

Some appreciation questions are asked by the teacher

Act I Is there any figure of speech used in this poem? If yes, which is the line?  

Teacher gives a brief explanation and examples about smile

Students are asked to give more  examples of figure of speech

Follow-up activities
1. Pick out the lines in the poem that impressed you and write them down. You may also write why these lines impressed you?
2. Look at the first and last line of the poem. What do the crowing of the cock and withdrawal of the winter suggest?
3. Attempt to write the appreciation of the poem.
Most of them responded  saying : There are mainly four seasons. winter, spring, summer and autumn

Yes, Crowing cocks, flowing streams, twittering birds, glittering lakes, green fields, bright sun, toiling farmers, grazing cattle, sailing clouds in the blue sky, lively foundations and defeated snow gives us a somewhat banal description of the advent of summer , just after the disappearance of winter.

This shows the happiness and excitement of the boy in the  arrival of spring.

    Winter is the defeated army here. In march the rays of the sun like arrows fall on the earth covered under the blanket of snow. Then   the snow starts melting. This melting of the ice/snow is compared to the retreating of an army.
